The Poleci presentation was a held in their sleek Meatpacking district store. Upon entering the store, I couldn’t help but notice that everyone in the room- save the models…and myself- was wearing black from head to toe. These dresses, paired with black tights, black heels and a black throw or jacket were among the evening's ensembles.
Evidently I did not get the memo. My royal blue dress was anything but subtle. My colorful ensemble, however, was the least interesting thing to see. This yellow number was my personal favorite, followed by the multicolored striped dress.
The models were perched atop white blocks throughout the store, donning an array of textures and gorgeous colors. The white walls, tall mirrors and bright lights created the perfect minimalist atmosphere to showcase the new designs. The attractive servers carrying trays of sparkling water and champagne weaving throughout the crowd didn’t hurt either. The nature of a presentation- as opposed to a runway show- is a far more intimate and personal experience. You see the clothes up close, can linger as long as you want, and the models seem- dare I say- like real people. One unfortunate model was feeling faint, and caused quite the commotion around how long she could stay on her post. She looked pretty miserable and was talking with both the coordinator and her fellow models. Another model was legitimately engaged in a conversation with a seemingly tipsy man who didn’t seem to realize that his choice of place and time to hit on her was poorly chosen. All in all, it was a great night. Beautiful people, beautiful clothes.
