Prada Casts Second Model Of Color in 20 Years For Spring 2014 Campaign
January 1, 2014
Is Prada turning over a new leaf? After 20 years churning out whitewashed campaign after whitewashed campaign, the Italian label added a dash of diversity, casting new kid on the block Malaika Firth in their Fall 2013 ads. While we were initially skeptical that we would continue to see such inclusion in Prada’s future ads, (let’s be real: the Italians tend to be the worst when it comes to diversity, particularly during Milan Fashion Week,) we’re happy to report that Malaika will not be the last brown girl to pose for the label for another two decades.
For spring 2014, Prada cast the gorgeous Italian-Congolese Cindy Bruna (pictured above, front and center) for the fashion house’s colorful campaign. Miuccia tapped a team of newbies for the Steven Miesel-lensed shot, including Ola Rudnicka, Sabrina Ioffreda, Julia Bergshoeff, Maarjan Ridalaan, and Anna Ewers.
For you Malaika fans out there, good news: according to The Fashion Spot, the model is rumored to appear in the full campaign for Prada’s SS 14 collection. We can’t wait to see the whole thing!
