Vogue UK reports that Mary Katranzou, the up-and-coming designer whose crazy-print designs were a huge hit at Topshop and Longchamp, is considering expanding into plus sizing with e-commerce powerhouse Net-a-Porter. In the interview, Katranzou said:
Net-a-Porter asked us if we would go bigger [to a size 16], and we would. I buy online — I think as a bigger size, you feel more comfortable trying things at home.
In considering going past size 16, to 18 or 20, the designer cited concerns about fabric costs, demand from buyers, and the nature of her print-heavy garments:
You wouldn’t want the typewriter [referring to her autumn/winter 2012-13 collection] to be there [she gestures to her chest area] on a size 20 — we would need a lot more thought about the prints.
Net-a-Porter‘s current size-16 dress selection is somewhat lacking (as Fashionista pointed out) — just 10 styles, in fairly basic shapes and materials. Katranzou’s cutting-edge designs would be a welcome addition; we hope that more designers will follow her lead!
