We’ve been style-stalking designer Rachel Roy for years (she always looks *flawless* on Instagram!), so when we had the chance to sit down and pick her brain on some of the trickiest “I have-nothing-to-wear” situations, we were thrilled. She can make mommy-and-me fashion look as good as a red carpet look. So–what are her tips?
SHEFinds: When you don’t know what to wear, do you have a go-to outfit?
Rachel Roy: I love cropped trousers all year round, a strong blazer (sailor striped sleeves are my favorite) and a well-fitting crew neck thin sweater with single soul pointy toe pumps! A go-to outfit should leave you feeling cool, confident, comfortable and by all means, the most like yourself.
SF: What is the trickiest thing you ever got dressed for and what did you wear?
RR: Invites to other people’s home events are tricky, for example Halloween parties. If you don’t really show up with a fully decked-out costume the host may feel you did not take them seriously. Same with themed dinners or lunches, showers, birthday parties, etc. When I put in real effort into myself and outfits I choose for friends’ parties I can literally see their gratefulness and joy at the idea that someone took them seriously and really cared about their event.
Genius advice! Now let’s take a walk down memory lane with some of Rachel’s more memorable looks for those special occasions:
