I love myself some Rachel Zoe. She always has something interesting to say–and some fabulous style tip to share–whenever I have the pleasure of interviewing her. This week I caught up with Rachel while she was promoting her new collaboration with Downy (on totally washable looks for fall so you don’t have to spend have your clothing budget on dry cleaning!), and I of course squeezed in some extra questions about her girl posse, her take on this year’s red carpet looks, what’s she’s buying for spring, and more. Check it out:
SHEfinds: Tell us about the washable looks you created with Downy for your fall collection! What goes in to making clothes washable vs. dry clean only?
Rachel Zoe: I was really inspired to design washable pieces for my collection after attending laundry school and learning how to properly care for fabrics at home. I also learned that many of the fabrics we constantly wear and take to the dry cleaner (jersey, knits and denims) can actually be washed. I was able to incorporate these fabrics into my collection and design some amazing pieces – my favorite being a multicolored silk jersey maxi dress that I wore to the opening on my Pop Up! The most important thing is to make sure you’re caring for fabrics correctly to help keep them looking their best—this means following the instructions on the care label, using the right detergent and treating the garment with Downy Fabric Conditioner to protect against stretching, fading and pilling.
SF: Being a working mom, how important is it to you to have clothes be washable?
RZ: Speaking on behalf of all mothers out there–our time is so precious. Having the option to wash something at home, saves everyone time as well as money, and that is so important.
SF: What was your favorite red carpet look from awards season this year?
RZ: I loved seeing color on the red carpet this season – I loved Cate Blanchett, Charlize Theron and Naomi Watts, to name a few. They always know how to nail it.
SF: You have a very cool “squad”—it’s always women crush Wednesday on your Instagram feed! What’s it like to be a fly on the wall at those girls’ nights out?!
RZ: I’m surrounded by so many “superwomen” who I’m constantly inspired by. They are such a great group and I’m so lucky to call them my friends.
SF: What trend are you most excited about for spring?
RZ: I’m looking forward to romantic silhouettes, exaggerated ruffles and off-the-shoulder lace… and I’m always excited to get back to fringe!
SF: What’s Rodger’s favorite look of yours for date night?
RZ: Date night is usually a cozy night in with the kids, but Rodger would say that he loves to see me in a jumpsuit and a leather jacket–something from my own collection.
