Mary-Kate Olsen missed the memo that it’s May–and 88 degrees in NYC. In head-to-toe leather and leopard outfit, we’re baffled. Both of her lines with sister Ashley, The Row and Elizabeth and James, are amazing, so we’re left wondering why she wants to sweat it out when there are so many cute spring trends?
What she did wrong:
1.) Too much layering, too much leather, and too much leopard. We’re sweating just thinking about it.
2.) She’s swimming in clothes. At 5’0, she should buy petite styles when possible, and pair loose-fitting tops with fitted pieces (such as a blazer, or short skirt).
3.) Her color palette is totally out of season. Black leather, deep red and animal prints, Oh My! Luckily this season, everything from neutrals to neons are in–get over winter already.
What she should have done:
Ditch the faux fur, MK, for Arden B.’s Linen Roll Sleeve Girlfriend Blazer ($59) – the tan color is a perfect neutral, and the length is super flattering. If you’re more of a gray girl, try BB Dakota’s Wade Blazer ($90) – also fitted, feminine and versatile.
Mary-Kate should have started with a comfy, Spring basic from her own Elizabeth & James line like this “Mondrian” Tee ($195). It’s the perfect weekend top.
Mary-Kate should have gone with these Elizabeth and James Flared Shorts ($245) – she definitely has the legs for them. J.Crew’s Cotton Cavalry Skirt ($59.50) in “neon peach” is another pretty way to play with the neon trend this season.
Now that warm weather is here for good, MK should update her heavy, leather bicycle boots with Grecian sandals, or a neon flip-flip like Steve Madden’s Serrious sandal ($49.95).
We know Mary-Kate and her sister Ashley are suckers for wayfarers which are always classic, but we would love to see her in these feminine, oversize Ray Ban Round CATS ($135).
