Reese Witherspoon recently sat down with Garden and Gun to talk about all things Draper James, her Southern lifestyle brand that is rapidly growing. Her e-commerce site launched back in May, but now Witherspoon is dishing on even bigger (and exciting!) developments.
Draper James will be getting its very own brick-and-mortar store in Nashville, which is where Witherspoon grew up. “When I was growing up we had this amazing store in Nashville called McClures, which is closed now. I have so many memories as a kid of sitting there while my mom tried on clothes, running into everyone we knew while we shopped,” she recalled. “I want to re-create that environment. A gathering spot where the mom brings kids in, and you drink sweet tea while you browse. That community. The charm of the old Southern department store feeling.”
She can’t imagine having her store anywhere else. “Whenever the plane lands in Nashville, I breathe deeper. I take in the air; I don’t feel the stress I feel every other place. I can live my life there. I can walk around and feel like I belong,” she said. “I want to bring that sense to more people. I hope this brand does that. Because that’s all we want in life—to feel like we belong somewhere. And the South offers that.”
The Draper James store is set to open sometime in the fall and is located on a “busy, walking street” in the 12South neighborhood of Nashville.
