My go-to New Year’s Resolution usually involves some sort of weight loss goal, and it usually doesn’t take very long for me to break it. So this year, I decided to make things easier for myself by setting a broader goal. This year, I simply want to take better care of myself. Because the better I take care of myself, the better mom I can be to my kids, and as far as my husband goes, “Happy wife. Happy life.”
So, interested in doing the same? Here’s my plan of attack for a better me in 2011.
1. I will spend more time to myself…alone.
I can’t remember the last time I did anything by myself…aside from picking up groceries or going to the dentist, and neither of those count! So this year, I plan on spending more alone time…pampering myself. I have a bunch of day spa gift cards that are collecting dust, and dagnammit, I’m finally going to use them. I’ve already booked a Swedish massage for later this month.
2. I will spend more alone time…with my husband.
After I’ve recharged at the hands of a masseuse, I’d love to spend more quality time with husband…without the kids. I’m not really interested in seeing movies (I’d rather watch the DVD at home), but I’d love to hit all the Top Chef restaurants in L.A. This means we’ll need to get a regular sitter, so when Grandma and Grandpa aren’t available, we need someone else. I’ve used SitterCity to find a good sitter in the past, so another subscription is due.
2. I will take steps to a healthier lifestyle…literally
My Reebok EasyTone sneakers have been sitting in my closet begging to be used. It’s not that there was something wrong with them, I simply got lazy. When I did use them, they weren’t just comfortable; they made for a good workout, too—much like MBTs without looking so obvious. So I plan to take them out for a walk more often and take baby steps to live a more active lifestyle.
