We never thought that we would see this day come, when H&M would collaborate with…Maison Martin Margiela?! According to WWD, the mega-retailer will soon announce a holiday collaboration collection with the avant-garde label, known for its cooky designs (have you seen their coke ring, camel toe shoes and fur headdress?!) and extreme tailoring. H&M did not confirm or deny the rumors.
While this move would be unexpected for the Swedish retailer, whose past collaborator alums include the more commercial and playful Jimmy Choo, Lanvin and Versace, it doesn’t seem completely far fetched. After all H&M is known for collaborating with predominantly European designers and for its recent move towards edgier collab projects (think Marni and Anna Dello Russo for H&M).
If Maison Martin Margiela’s 2012 fall collection (photos above) is any signifier of what’s to come, the limited-edition collab line will include a lot of wacky cuts, extreme leather, and high-collared sweaters and coats. Will the collab be as bonkers as the house’s own designs? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
