Runway Recap: Christian's Fierce, And Now First
March 6, 2008
Here's the final Runway Recap from SheFinds writer Casey:
Down to the last three… Jillian, Rami & Christian.
As we wound down to the finale, our personal favorite has been Jillian. Early on it seemed as though she might be a one-note designer who made sweet creations with florals and pleats. Then she began to surprise us with her versatility and her exquisite detailing, and we began to see that she was actually a quiet storm. We did not expect to see her in the finale, but each episode she impressed us more and more until it became a certainty that she would show at Bryant Park.
Rami, on the other hand… from day one we expected him to make it. It's as if he looks at the dress form and the fabric flies onto it and makes beauty by itself. He has a gift for draping the female form, that was obvious – but could he do structure? As Nick Verreos said in the finale, it's as if he said "you want structure? Here's structure, bitch!" — we miss that Nick Verreos! We want him to come to our house and have cocktails with us. Jack can come too.
Christian, Christian, Christian. All season long his over-confidence has been a bit of a nails on a chalkboard thing for us. During the finale episodes though we saw that this kid is a full-on human being with all that goes along with that: nerves, self-doubt, and appreciation for his competition. We fell under the Christian spell – he won us over.
The collections were all pretty flawless, frankly. They were very different from one another so it's almost impossible to really judge them side by side. Jillian's was wearable, Rami's was elegant, and Christian's was haute couture. With Victoria Beckham as judge, you knew things would go Christian's way — and after seeing the collections we had no argument. While all three collections were pretty fantastic, that final dress presented by Christian was a work of art and clinched it in our minds.
Young Christian, a well deserved victory! Thankfully, though, we do expect to see Jillian's and Rami's designs in the market eventually and we can't wait to own some!
