It’s the start of a new year, and if your resolution was to save money or make more if it, look no further than your own closet. Now is the perfect time to clean out what’s not being worn (out with the old!) and sell it to make some cash – and space – for spring clothes (in with the new!). SHEfinds Founder and Wear This Now author Michelle Madhok appeared on Better TV this morning to share her tips for how to get started selling your unwanted clothes online.
Parting with your clothes may not be easy at first, but Michelle tells you how you can stop yourself from holding onto old pieces that will be much more useful to you as cash. Watch as she shares everything from how to choose the right items, to presentation and pricing. And for more on the sites mentioned in the segment, see below.
- Copious and Threadflip: Great for more mass-produced items like J.Crew and Banana Republic, or items that are worn. Use these for a general closet cleaning.
- Portero: Best for if you’re hawking luxury designer accessories, which are a great seller on consignment sites. Head here with your good-condition Chanel and Cartier.
- HipSwap: A low-fee site that will allow you to walk away with more of a profit once the item is sold.
- The RealReal and eDrop-Off: These may have higher fees, but will give you the full-service treatment. You send your item to them, where they will make your clothing or accessories look best and sell them for you.
