What: Loose, flowy hair
Why: During E!'s Red Carpet pre-show, fashion eye in the sky Kimora Lee Simmons kept calling celebs' easy, breezy hairstyles "bed head." All I have to say is, I wish my hair looked that sleek, polished and pretty first thing in the morning. It seems a lot of Emmy-goers decided to forgo hours in the hairstyling chair this year, favoring long, loose waves and sexy, sideswept layers instead.
With the exception of some gravity-defying updos (I'm looking at you, Ellen Pompeo and Sandra Oh) hair looks were effortless and healthy looking, swapping lots of fuss and icky products for shine and swing. Stars like Ali Larter, Debra Messing and Marcia Cross used their long, polished hair to help show off fabulous earrings, and Edie Falco (whose picture I will be taking to my hairstylist on my next visit) made a statement with her choppy layers and long bangs.
Get the Look: The good news for those of us who don't travel with an entourage of haircare professionals is that this look is a snap to pull off. Simply section hair, wrap each section around a big round brush (like Spornette's Touch Boar Brush, $17) for volume, and blow dry, aiming downward with your diffuser. Add polish with a paddle brush and a smear of shine serum like Citre Shine Anti-Frizz Serum, Colour Prism ($7) for locks that look red carpet ready.
