Cruise. Lohan. Jolie. We see the name and we want more. A certain British celebrity couple is hoping that US consumers will add one more to the list: Beckham.
“Posh†and “Becks†(Victoria and David Beckham, respectively) have landed on US soil and you would have had to live under a rock not to know it: W Magazine, E! News, CNN.com, The Today Show and The New York Times are just a few examples of the media frenzy caused by the Beckham British Invasion.
While David starts his reported $250 million-dollar contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy, Posh has her eye on celebrity icon status. With her reality special airing tonight on NBC at 8:00 pm (7:00 pm Central), fragrances, sunglasses and her new denim line (with expanded items expected in September,) the plan is for us to shop it, dress it and work it like Beckham.
Is this really anything new or have we seen this before? Do we really love her style enough to pick up dVb Oversized Plastic Sunglasses or pull a pair of Denim by Victoria Beckham Dark Denim Skinny Capris over our hips? No item in her collection is under $200 and that’s a lot to ask of brand new consumers. Plus, can she succeed where many a pop diva who has come stateside has been sent packing? Skinny, big-breasted with a great wardrobe is great, but is her style something we would want to mimick for ourselves? Maybe it’s time for something new and fabulous, Posh. We’ve seen this before.
