After experiencing the stampede-like avidness of the fashion show going mob earlier at BCBG, I decided to get a head start on my next show, Abaeté. Arriving early did get me a spot in the front of the line, and even a seat on the wall of Lowell Memorial Fountain. Of course, my luck would be that this section of the line just happened to be situated right in front of a blowing gale of arctic air conditioning. The guy sitting next to me seemed to find humor in my efforts to flatten my Anna Corinna bag over my legs like a blanket for the 40-minute-long wait. “Freezing yet?” He laughed. “Already frozen,” I replied through chattering teeth. “Oh, the things we do for fashion,” he sighed. So true.
Project Runway enthusiasts will be excited to know that as soon as I walked in I spotted Fern Mallis (executive director of 7th on Sixth and PR guest judge), and Nina Garcia, (Fashion Director at ELLE and main PR judge), sitting just inches from the runway and casually flipping through their Daily Front Rows. Sophia Bush's entrance, however, seemed to drum up the most excitement in the room.
As I scanned the pages of my complimentary WWD while people took their seats, I came across a full-page ad for Abaeté for Payless! Abaeté, (along with Lela Rose and Alice + Olivia), has teamed up with the discount shoe giant. Adorable pointed toe, patent wedges for $25? It’s a Fashion Week miracle.
