Some people collect Fendis or Manolos by the hundreds. I, however, accumulate men's ribbed undershirts. Specifically white ones. Somehow over the years, this item has reached seasonless iconic status in my wardrobe. I love the men's fit, the casual style, and above all, the extra-long length. I wear these babies under sweaters and blazers in the wintertime, and with skirts and over swimsuits in the summer. Often referred to as 'beaters' – although I don't condone the connotation – they are usually spotted on NASCAR fans or in clubs at the Jersey shore. But somehow, when appropriately paired with skinny jeans, jacket, and a kick-ass piece of jewelry, this cotton basic morphs into something fabulous. And when a 3-pack costs less than a trendy throwaway at H&M, you can't help but stock up. I usually opt for generic, but if you are more of a luxury-muscle-tee kind of girl, there are plenty of designers who have taken a jab at the style. And if you feel self-conscious about shopping in the men's underwear section, then check out other options inspired by the macho men but made specifically for the ladies.
The Gap is a one-stop shop for all wardrobe basics, so take your pick from a plethora of colors and tank styles – all for around $15.
