Chanel recently invited 14 bloggers to France to visit their perfume laboratories and Coco Chanel's apartment and it sent shockwaves through the blogosophere. Go to Paris? For free? And schmooze it up with the folks at Chanel? You've got to be kidding. But no, it's for real and the lucky invitees have been documenting their trips in great detail on their blogs.
We here at SheFinds are still recovering from not making the guest list, but taking a little comfort in the fact that other fashion houses may follow suit (Prada, you have our number – wink, wink). We're guessing the whole point of the trip was for Chanel to give "real" people an inside look at the inner-workings of the beloved company – while also positioning themselves for tons of publicity, of course. And we have to say (not just because we're hoping to make the cut next time) it's a pretty great idea. High fashion is no longer confined to the ranks of the super-rich, so we think it's a promising sign that luxe designers like Chanel are embracing the "little people."
But these invites also beg the question: by opening their doors and making their business somewhat transparent, is Chanel working against the mystique that's been the reason they're so highly coveted? I personaly think Chanel will be just fine, especially if they keep making bags like this. In fact, I think if anything this will just make them more desirable. So good for you Chanel! Next time, if you could just send an invitation our way, that'd be even better, thanks!
