About 80 to 85 percent of women are wearing the wrong size bra, experts say. And, the number of women I see with back fat spilling generously over their bra straps tells me the estimate is probably accurate. Here’s a tip: If your bra straps dig into or slip off your shoulders, or the bra rides up in back, you’re wearing the wrong size. Pattie Ficorilli, a Maidenform bra fitting expert, offers the following additional tips to find your bra size: Take your band measurement by wrapping a tape measure snugly around your back, under your arms and across the top of your chest (this is different than the under-the-bust method). To find your cup size, loosely measure around your back and across the fullest part of your bust (while wearing a bra). Subtract your band measurement from the cup measurement. If the difference is 1 inch, you’re an A cup; 2 inches = B cup; 3 inches = C cup; 4 inches = D cup; 5 inches = DD cup; and, 6 inches = DDD cup.
