Shimmery scented lip gloss is kind of a throwback, isn’t it? Most of our lip glosses these days are packaged in understated, sleek tubes and do not smell like candy. These three glosses all stem the maturity tide in their own precious ways, but swipe one on, slip it back into that alligator clutch, and it’s like you never went out to play on the swing set.
Jelly Pong Pong Lip Sorbet ($15.99), the best of the bunch, is small enough to fit in your fifth pocket and comes in a black lace pouch that looks like lingerie. The gold-flecked gloss looks far too Tempera-paint-pink in the tube, but is supremely wearable once on. And it smells like a lollipop.
Playboy Beauty Kissing Gloss ($18) is infused with peppermint and menthol, which gives lips a strong jolt of iciness a few seconds after application. It smells, unsurprisingly, like mint, and gives lips a colorless shine infused with ever-so-subtle pearly shimmer. The tube is vaguely reminiscent of a stripper pole – for better or worse.
Flirt! Squeeze Me Super Shiny Lipgloss ($10) has the best scent – chocolatey but somehow complex, as though the lip gloss chef threw a shot of espresso and a vanilla bean in there. The pigment is a bit too opaque and requires blotting achieve that glossy, sheer finish.
