The decision is final: this is the year we do Father’s Day right. That means no more mugs and forget the gift cards. Together with Coach, we’re bringing you real dad-approved gift ideas, no matter what your dad’s style. Whether he’s totally traditional or fashion-savvy, we went straight to the source on what fathers really want.
First, we caught up with Tyler Thoreson, the VP of Men’s Editorial & Creative at Gilt Groupe. Given his awesome occupation, Tyler obviously knows a thing or two about what the stylish dad is craving for Father’s Day this year. Learn more about Tyler–and what’s on his Father’s Day wish list–below.
SF: What’s your name, age, occupation?
TT: Tyler Thoreson, 40, VP of Men’s Editorial & Creative, Gilt
SF: How would you describe your style?
TT: 49% Ferris, 51% Cameron
SF: What’s on your Father’s Day wish list?
TT: I’d love the Bleecker Canvas Cabin Bag. (Hint, hint.)
SF: What’s your best Father’s Day memory?
TT: Last year my wife, Allissa, made me an amazing iMovie slideshow that chronicled the evolution of our family from a single tiny baby girl to the wonderful mayhem it has become, all set to one of our favorite old Wilco tracks. Knowing how much love and work went into the creation of that video (not to mention how much went into the creation of the family it depicted) was humbling.
SF: What are your Father’s Day plans this year? What are you most looking forward to?
TT: I’m thinking it’ll be Mother’s Day Part II. I’ll be returning from a business trip to Europe the day before Father’s Day, so I’ll probably take the kids for the afternoon in order to give my wife a break — after having been alone with them for six days, she’ll deserve it!
SF: What do you love most about being a dad?
TT: The moment when I get home from work and they take turns running across the house to give me a hug. It’s become a ritual, and sometimes it takes several attempts to get the run-jump-hug technique perfected.
