Some women go to extreme lengths to become a size zero. But what if you are a size 0–and are still not satisfied with your body? That was the case for one woman, beauty blogger Megan O’Brien, who at a size zero decided to undergo liposuction and wrote about it in a recent Harper’s Bazaar article that has since gone viral. “As ironic as it sounds, I am actually comfortable in my own skin,” she wrote in the essay, titled “I’m A Size Zero And I Got Liposuction.”
Megan, whose blog is Meg’s Makeup (check it out!), explains the reason behind her decision–and we have to admit it kind of makes sense.
Despite her small frame, Megan had what she described as a “spider” shape: “I have spindly, long chicken legs and arms and a really round stomach.” After quitting smoking, she gained even more weight in her midsection, and couldn’t do anything about it. “I was only eating chicken and salads, and going to the gym five days a week with a personal trainer for an hour a day, and I looked really good – except for my stomach.” She was constantly being congratulated about her (nonexistant) pregnancy when she sought the help of Dr. Marc Mani, who reduced the size of her stomach, as well as removing fat from under her chin, bags under her eyes and took fat from her stomach to fill out her face. Check out before/after images of her stomach:
While Megan’s decision to get liposuction doesn’t sit well with everyone, that doesn’t matter because it’s her body. In my opinion, if that makes her happy and feel confident then that’s what it’s all about. Bottom line: people will judge. Live your life, girl!
What’s your take on Megan’s decision?
