One day I'm sweating just standing on the street dreading having to go down into the tropical abyss that is the subway, the next it's so cold I'm walking double time hoping it will still be a little toasty underground. Don't you just love fall?
Well, for some, fall isn't just about changing from shorts and tanks to cashmere and coats, it's also about a shift in the weather that can wreak havoc on your skin. Although we haven't gotten to arctic temps just yet, it's never too soon to get a leg up on products you'll need for the coming months.
Cleanse: A gentle, exfoliating face wash can help keep flaking skin at bay, such as Collective Well Being's Cinammon Cleansing Clay ($13). This organic cleanser for combo skin gently purifies, removing excess oil without drying. Keeping this balance is especially important as the air gets drier and cooler.
Protect: Applying a moisturizer is very important in the winter, but another great thing you can do for your skin is add an extra layer of protection. A dimethicone-rich serum, such as Bioelements Stress Solution ($48), calms and soothes skin creating more even tone and shielding it from cold, dry air.
Hydrate: A rich moisturizer is a winter must-have, but a mega-quenching cream can almost be too heavy for fall. Instead, we like Philosophy's Hope in a Jar. It's thoroughly hydrating, but not too heavy.
