Remember back in high school or college when your biggest weekend complaint was not having enough “going out” clothes? Yea, well, thankfully NastyGal filled that void for all of us, opening a door for a brand new trend that is sure to have you complaining all over again: “going out” hats.
Obviously, hats are a big trend this fall and for the foreseeable future (they were everywhere on the spring 2014 runways including Donna Karan, Thom Browne, John Galliano and DSquared2), but this isn’t a news-worthy trend because suddenly we like to wear hats (have you been to the South?). No, this is a news-worthy trend because hats, particularly baseball-style caps, are now perfectly pairable with your cocktail attire.
No joke, that hat you wore to the Rangers game (talking baseball here, not hockey!) is now game for heading to that swanky new bar in the East Village. Maybe it has to do with hip-hop (though Kanye has yet to say he started this) turning baseball caps into statement pieces, and fashion has finally just caught on. Whatever the reason, traditional baseball caps suited in leather, leopard and other washed out prints and fabrics are what the cool kids are wearing to the clubs.
So, to make sure you never have to complain about not having a “going out” hat, we picked out some of our favorite caps from KENZO, J.Crew and more.
