Women deserve to feel empowered and beautiful, especially in what they wear. But it’s tough to feel like that’s even an option when it seems like that positive feeling is restricted to a certain type of women. Tess Holliday, a 30-year-old plus-size model, calls out Victoria’s Secret for their lack of plus-size lingerie options.
Holliday shares with MTV News, “Growing up in Mississippi, I definitely remember Victoria’s Secret being a huge part of my teenage mall experience, but I couldn’t really fit into any of the underwear. Whenever I do stop in, it’s mostly with my friends – not all of my friends are plus-size – but I’ve never actually worn anything from there. I’ve never been able to.”
In fact, last month she reached out to Victoria’s Secret when she first heard they were considering adding a plus-size Angel.
While she admits her post was partially a joke, she then mentions how she would definitely accept a serious inquiry. In addition, calling out Victoria’s Secret is not the only message she wants the media and the fashion and lingerie industries to take away from her. “The bottom line is that there’s this pervasive feeling that fat girls aren’t supposed to feel sexy, and that needs to change,” she says. “It’s something plus-size women are constantly messaged – either overtly or subconsciously – and that shows in a lack of options for lingerie.”
