Thank You For Not Wearing Smoking Slippers: Shop Driving Shoes Instead.
September 24, 2013
Driving shoes have been the traditional shoe in casual menswear for a while. Think The Satorialist in Italy, photographing the most beautiful man dressed in what you can only assume is vintage Versace, and you look down at his feet to see what a perfectly dressed Italian man would wear and there they are, the most comfortable, usually quite affordable, shoes out there: the drivers.
So, given the even-goes-with-vintage-Versace style of the shoe, the durability (these things are leather through and through), and the convenient price point of somewhere below $500, it’s about time that the men stop hogging the driver.
Yes, there is a female version known to be worn by the likes of Jessica Alba, Beyonce and Selena Gomez called the smoking slipper. But that slipper is usually a low-heeled cousin of the driver, and it doesn’t quite capture that classic, vintage, je ne sais quoi (but in Italian) attitude. To prove it to you, we rounded up our favorite pairs of drivers. And, honest, they will soon be yours, too.
