After Monday night’s Met Ball, today marks the official opening of the Alexander McQueen retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. The exhibit, entitled “Savage Beauty,” pays tribute to the designer’s work, ranging from his first collection, to his final line (which showed only weeks after his unprecedented death last year). The retrospective comes in a timely manner, as a culmination to the many events that have occurred since his death—from the Met Ball held in his honor, to the wedding dress his predecessor Sarah Burton designed for Kate Middleton, to being sued by the Hells Angels over a skull ring, to the influence he held in many a Lady Gaga music video-.
We can’t wait to see it for ourselves, so in honor of all of the McQueen love, we’ve rounded up our top 5 iconic McQueen pieces below.
