The one workout most of us ladies avoid is strength training. We think lifting weights will somehow magically bulk us up overnight. Well, turns out, this is far from the truth.
Celebrity trainer Ramona Braganza, who has worked with Halle Berry and Jessica Alba, tells Redbook, “Women don’t bulk up as easily as men.” So, no, you won’t wake up the day after strength training looking like a bodybuilder (unless that’s your goal, then get ’em girl!). She continues, “And by adding just a little bit of lean muscle, you’ll burn more calories all the time, not only during your workout.” Wait, so strength training actually helps burn even more calories?? We had no idea!
So next time you’re at the gym, give weight lifting a try! Or maybe go up a pound or two in weights at your next spin class. But if you’re still having doubts, pilates is a great way to incorporate strength training without straight-up lifting weights.
