The #Don'tJudgeChallenge Is Actually The Complete Opposite Of What It Stands For
July 8, 2015
Social media challenges have been popping up everywhere recently. The latest one to go viral is called the “Don’t Judge Challenge” and it’s extremely judgmental. The premise behind the challenge is to wipe away your flaws and reveal what’s underneath…except it’s completely backfiring.
The hashtag #Don’tJudgeChallenge starting making its way around social media about the same time when beauty blogger Em Ford made an emotional video message to her haters. She responded to shameful comments about her acne by posting a video of herself taking off all her makeup and revealing what she looks like underneath. Em wanted to encourage viewers to accept themselves the way they are.
Instead of being a positive campaign against body shaming, all of these pictures and videos of the #Don’tJudgeChallenge are incredibly insulting to a lot of people. The people (mostly teens) posting these videos are drawing on thick eyebrows, acne and wearing glasses, as if those are things to be ashamed about. All of these videos are basically pretty people making fun of “ugly” people.
I literally can’t with the Internet right now.
