Guilty pleasures: The Bachelor, 50 Shades of Grey, proposal videos on Youtube, McDonald’s french fries, and Chipotle – things we all love to hate and hate to love. When we’re talking about the awesomeness that is Chipotle, I mean I want all that they have to offer. Gimme some guac, cheese, rice, and chips (plus maybe some of their amazing salad dressing on top), and I’m good-to-go!
Even though I’m literally salivating while writing this (and you probably are while reading it), I remembered that Chipotle is on my list of guilty pleasures, aka, there are reasons I should feel bad eating it. The New York Times published a study that found that most people’s meals from Chipotle have an average of 1,070 calories – you know, like half of what you’re supposed to eat in a day. Not to mention they also contained a full day’s worth of sodium.
So what is causing your Chipotle order to exceed a normal calorie count?! We found that the most unhealthy items on the menu are cheese, sour cream, and guac. These three toppings typically take a rather “healthy” meal – ranging around 600 calories – over the edge to 1,000 calories. To keep your Chipotle creation down in calories, you might have to get rid of two of these decadent toppings – sorry! What’s the other killers?! The study found that orders with sides of chips and guacamole usually ranged on higher calorie content, like up to 1,790 calories!
So next time you’re at Chipotle, maybe re-think some of your choices if you’re trying to be calorie-conscious!
