I’m not even going to lie to you – when I first learned about the Normcore trend, I just didn’t get it. Some people describe it as dressing like “a modern tourist,” or “Seinfeld-esque,” while others called it “boring” or “normal,” but none of those descriptions were very appealing to me. So I kind of blew the trend off. Then, I discovered blogger Mija of Creators of Desire, who does dress “basic”–but in the best way possible. I started to understand than Normcore is about simplifying (no fussing over accessories), moving away from trends, and throwing it back to the 90s when all you needed was a good pair of jeans (light wash, mind you) and a white t-shirt, a la Kate Moss in the CK Jeans ads.
It’s a “trend” but it’s actually not trendy at all. You can probably find everything you need in the back of your mother’s closet. Think high-waisted mom jeans, oversized sweaters, blazers and cardigans, and plain sneakers or Birkenstocks (in the summer). Basically, it is the epitome of comfort.
If you’re a visual learner like myself, click through the slideshow above to see what the trend really is all about. You’ll probably be surprised at how much you’ll actually like it.
