The One Thing You Should Never Do At The Holidays, According To Haylie Duff
December 8, 2016
The holidays can be a very busy, and sometimes stressful, time. There is just so much going on–holiday parties, gift exchanges, family in town, travel… even getting those Christmas cards ordered can feel like an impossible feat.
If you’re like us, you often feel overwhelmed about this time of year, and while some stores just feed the frenzy (opening at 6am on Thanksgiving? Really?!), T.J.Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods are actually doing it right. The brands just launched a “Bring Back the Holidays,” because, according to their study, 73% of people wish they had more time to spend with loved ones during the holidays. Agreed! They teamed up with Haylie Duff, who we sat down with to discuss the rules she lives by this time of year:
SHEfinds: What’s the one thing you should never do when entertaining for the holidays?
Haylie Duff: When it comes to picking recipes for your holiday gatherings avoid ones that are too complicated or that you’ve never tried before. Holiday’s aren’t the time to stress yourself out with something you don’t know well! Take the pressure off and make dishes you’re comfortable with… if you’re determined to try something news, give yourself time for a test run before the big day!
SF: What’s the one Duff family tradition you won’t let go of?
HD: My favorite family tradition growing up is gathering everyone around the table and enjoying a really good meal together. We are all so busy during the year, and the holidays are a time where put work aside and spend quality time together without distractions. I really cherish these meaningful moments I am able to spend with my family. That’s why I was so excited to partner with T.J.Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods to encourage people to bring back the holidays by focusing on what matters most–creating these meaningful moments with loved ones!
SF: What’s the one gift that works for everyone?
HD: A good bottle of wine or a great smelling candle it always a great go-to! I also love making some simple and yummy homemade snacks or holiday treats. Just pop them into a cute gift box or bag…everyone will really love the personal touch that you made something just for them!
SF: What the best item you’ve ever found at a T.J. Maxx, Marshalls or HomeGoods?
HD: That’s a tough one! I love visiting the stores because they are great one-stop shops for everyone on my list. I also always find some amazing décor items for my holiday centerpiece. They have so many options making it easy to mix and match plates, linens and great serving dishes for a simple and beautiful holiday table-scape.
