The Newest Place They're Putting Peplum? On Our Pants.

It doesn’t look like we’re going to be rid of the peplum trend any time soon: designers like Kate Spade, Rachel Comey and Yigal Azrouel all sent it down the runways of their fall 2013 NYFW shows. Not that we have any major problems with peplum sticking around – we do love how it hides a belly – but after a while, every trend needs some refreshing. Just a couple weeks back, we discussed the peplum swimsuit as a new use for the ruffle this spring. Now, that was one look we could get behind. Who doesn’t want to cover trouble zones on the beach?

What we’re still not sure about is the peplum pant we’ve started seeing from designers like Jason Wu, DVF and alice + olivia. This could be a recipe for a fashion disaster if the ruffle were to fall in the wrong spot and place emphasis on the hips. A high-waisted pant is necessary for this to work, but we still think we’re going to air on the side of caution and stick to small, hardly noticeable peplums on our pants for the time being. Click through the slideshow to shop some of the peplum pants out there, and let us know in the comments if you’re on board with this trend.
