Face it: the colorblock trend isn’t going away any time soon. You saw it last spring on the runway, on winter jackets and then a couple months ago with these colorful bags. But when it comes to summer, a season that encourages bright colors, the trend can be a bit much. That’s why it’s better to stick to two-tone pieces rather than multiple color ones.

Darks, pastels, neons, neutrals; every shade you can think of can be incorporated into a two-tone clothing or accessory. The beauty of this trend is matching tones that you wouldn’t think would work, like neons and neutrals. Kate Spade does this well by pairing nude with a bright color, like pink or yellow. But why stop there? Since it’s summer, bright on bright pieces make sense too. And while pastels are considered a spring trend, the give your loud summer wardrobe some much-needed softness when paired with neutrals.

The key to wearing two-tone items is to make them the staple piece in your outfit. Because most of these items are a mix between tones, it’s easy to find clothing and accessories to match. Just make sure they don’t try to overshadow the item! Take a look at this slideshow to see the many ways you can wear two-toned clothing.

Be sure to look at other summer trends like bright sandals, beach cover ups, and slip on sneakers
