Why: Stila eye shadow in Kitten is like the jeans in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants: it flatters everyone, in every situation. The pinky-gold hue pretty much bends to my will: if I want it to work for the daytime, I wear it dry and with no liner. The brightness of the gold makes my blue eyes look bluer, but the sparkle isn’t overpowering. If I want a more dramatic look, I add a drop or two of water (or — secret beauty tip! — a squeeze of Visine) for a velvety, lasts-through-a-party look. I don’t know what kind of crazy science makes Stila shadow last without clumping or creasing, but it doesn’t have either of those bad habits. The color is like my skin tone magnified, and I know tons of people of all skin tones who say the same thing about Kitten. Dress it up, dress it down, pair it with dark, shimmery coffee hues for a smoky look, or use a thin brush to line the inside corners of your eyes to make the whites look whiter and the irises more intense. It’s the miracle product I don’t know what I did without.
