These 1-Minute Beauty Tricks Will Make Your Face Look Younger--Instantly!
May 13, 2015
You can’t turn back the clock (if we could, I’d take back all the blind dates I’ve ever went on), but you can trick it. Let’s get real: while there may be no “miracle cream” that instantly makes you look years younger or a non-invasive procedure that makes you look like you’re 24, there are ways to perk up your face without needles and scalpels. Best of all, you don’t have to splurge on the most expensive tools to turn back the clock–chances are, most of these items you need to look years younger are already sitting right in your makeup bag.
Each of the look-younger adjustments below will add no more than a couple of extra minutes to your makeup routine — promise!
Keep your brow game strong. A full brow can wind back years–instantly. If you’re not naturally blessed with Cara Delevingne-esque brows, be sure to use a brow pencil and powder to shape yours and fill in any sparse areas. Also, be sure to check out our tutorial on how to get beautiful brows.
Don’t be afraid of a little glow. You might think highlighters and illuminators are best left for the 20-something crowd, but that’s just not true; with some strategic placement (and a little bit of practice), it’s easy to cop that “lit from within” glow for yourself. I personally love using liquid illuminators for this (like NARS Illuminator in Copacabana) and dotting it at my browbone, my cheekbone, down the bridge of my nose and on my chin. Use the remainder right above your cupid’s bow to give your lips a fuller look, too.
Always take time to chill. If you have a big night coming up and your under-eye bags look like they might be growing darker and droopier by the day, opt for an undereye mask (Karuna Renewal+ Eye Masks are my personal jam) and leave it in the fridge for a couple hours before applying. If you don’t have time, just try the age-old cold spoon trick: pop two teaspoons in the freezer before placing them under your eyes for instant de-bagging.
Never skip blush. A bit of a rosy glow on your cheeks can truly work wonders. Instead of sticking to a powder formula, opt for a cream (it looks more natural and glowier) or liquid. I like the texture of Yves Saint Laurent’s Baby Doll Kiss and Blush and find that they give the most natural flush (Rose Epicurien is my favorite.)
