We’ve seen a bunch of Instagram accounts making fun of fashion bloggers like @youdidnoteatthat, but this might be the first Twitter account we’ve seen. The Sarcastialist, mainly pokes fun at street style photographs taken by Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist by placing witty and more realistic captions on them. Other photographers like Yvan Rodic, Jak and Jil and FaceHunter are also included.
Basically, the whole point is to take street style bloggers’ egos down a notch. We place them on such a high pedestal by copying their looks, buying their accessories, and working out till we pass out to be as skinny (even though we know they don’t actually eat) and as beautiful as them, but The Sarcastialist turns them back into real people.
With witty photo captions like “I did the kids’ packed lunch today. Gave them half a leftover Domino’s & two cans of Red Bull,” and “What did you want? A skinny caramel macchiato?,” The Sarcastialist gives these perfect people real life personalities and problems, and I like it.
The Sarcastialist’s message is that just like us, the people in street style photos and those who run successful fashion blogs are still people too. Yes, they do have glamorous lives, but they still do the same things that we do like shop for groceries, take out the trash, scrub the toilet, and run late for appointments. Can you even imagine your favorite blogger or street style model scrubbing her toilet or cooking her own dinner? I can’t either, but it happens. They’re just like the rest of us. Thanks to The Sarcastialist for reminding us of that.
