Local Trends: Angelic in Greenwich

icon I have a love/hate relationship with my neighborhood in Greenwich Village. Sure, it’s jam-packed with self-righteous hipsters and rowdy NYU students, but it’s got loads of boho boutiques and unbeatable weekend brunch. Recently, I have spotted an influx of charm necklaces with angelic, ever-so-girlie themes. It was not long ago that we were sporting shark teeth and guns around our necks. Why the sudden switch to kitchy bows, hearts and angel wings? Have we collectively grown more lovey-dovey? Is it a subtle protest of the wars raging around the world? Are we yearning for the days when Britney was the dirtiest good girl instead of just plain dirty?

Betsey Johnson’s jewelryicon approaches the trend with femme edginess, combining oversize Swarovski crystalsicon, good luck charmsicon, and wingsicon into her line.

Kimberly Baker Jewelryicon does delicate, a nice alternative to the chunky, Mr. T chain trend. Find more sweet symbols in Nordstrom’s Rock & Romance accessory sectionicon.

imageIf a sparkling bow necklace can make Paris Hilton look sweet and innocent, just imagine what it can do for you. Get yours at Emitations, they have an abundance of hearts, feathers, leaves, bows, and assorted girlie girl stuff.
