Why: Never has a sisterly twosome garnered so much attention from the fashion world (Paris and Nikki’s regular appearance on the back page of US Weekly not withstanding). My first reaction to yet another shameless attempt by the Olsen’s to take our money, aka the introduction of their new fashion line The Row, was jaded amusement.
But my mild mockery quickly turned to optimistic curiosity when I saw a picture of the girls in their designs at the 25th Anniversary Of The Annual CFDA Fashion Awards. Looking lean, tasteful and slightly sexy, the twins appeared a world more sophisticated than their taller, blonder counterparts. Apparently, I wasn’t the only one who took notice. A blogger for WhoWhatWear, who road-tested the line, had high praise for the girls’ tees, stating that “this might sound crazy, but it’s like the shirts have an intuitive knowledge about where to cling and where to drape on any body.”
Initially, you could only purchase the Olsen pieces at Barneys New York or Maxfield in Los Angeles, however, the 28-piece knitwear line is now available online at London’s Browns. In addition, the twins are slated to launch a less expensive version of the line (The Row pieces go for $250 and up) this August at Neiman Marcus, Intermix and Bergdorf Goodman.
At the CFDA Fashion Awards, Mary Kate (right) wore a dress from the twin’s forthcoming line Elizabeth & James (named for the twins’ younger siblings), while Ashley (left) wore The Row. Laugh all you want, but I’m headed to for my local Bandwagon, er…..Barney’s to grab a The Row dress for myself.
