I have a special place in my heart for the questionable protagonist of MTV's latest high-school reality show, The Paper, whose final two episodes aired Monday. Like Amanda Lorber, I was a school newspaper dork all through high school (and college), and sometimes picked out my outfits more than one day in advance.
More importantly, though, I, too, have been married to my plastic-framed, geometric glasses since I was 16. Mine are cat-eyed at the moment, not quite as in-your-face as the huge rectangles that Lorber sports on the show. But I do admire her standout frame choices, highlighted by her glasses’ chunky and oft-detailed temples. The girl’s got her own style – and she’s just in time to ride the whole glasses-are-cool-now trend, even if accidentally.
Score your own pair of attention-grabbing rectangular frames like the ones below – it certainly seems like they’ve worked for Ms. Lorber.
This thick-framed pair ($29) has a graduated brown-to-white color scheme and gold detail at the temples.
Kate Spade’s Patterned Temple Reading Glasses ($75) hit on that offbeat coolness that makes Lorber at least a little bit lovable.
