Want To Fall Asleep In Less Than A Minute Every Night? Try These Amazing Tricks
January 24, 2015
It happens to the best of us. After a busy day working and running here and there, you can’t fall asleep when bedtime finally comes. And no matter how you try to relax or focus, your mind simply won’t slow down and settle long enough for you to drift into la la land.
Now what if we told you there was a way to fall asleep in under one minute, no sleeping pills or hypnosis required. You’d be totally game, right? Well the gals over at Byrdie recently blogged about Dr. Andrew Weil’s popular 4-7-8 sleep method in which you breathe in through your nose for four seconds, hold your breath for seven seconds and then exhale through your mouth for eight seconds. The science behind the technique is that extending your breath slows your heart rate and increases oxygen flow into your bloodstream. What that means when you’re trying to fall asleep? You relax faster and therefore drift off easier and sooner.
This life-changing tip got us wondering what other small changes we could make to help the bedtime process. Turns out there are tons of meditation and breathing techniques out there designed to make falling asleep a cinch. Click through the slideshow to check out some of our favorites.
