Kenzo has almost single-handedly cornered the market on fashion sweatshirts. No other brand consistently designs sweatshirts that that work best outside of your home and as part of a high-brow outfit.
But Kenzo has been making sweatshirts fashionable for years with hard-to-miss designs that you could spot on that front row fashion blogger from your seat in the back. In 2013, Kenzo sweatshirts focused on graphic and bold tiger prints ($283) and the all-seeing Illuminati-like eye ($470). And with the brand’s pre-fall 2014 show, held in an inconspicuous room in midtown Manhattan, we’ve now seen what is sure to be the new “It” sweatshirt.
The sweatshirt forgoes any 2014 color trends (looking at you radiant orchid), opting for darker colors, a bit of ombre shading on the sleeve and a bold statement in glitter lettering to pull it all together. If you were to have gone in a comma in 2012 to wake up now, this sweatshirt wouldn’t be how you realized you’d been out for a while. It pulls on some of 2012’s biggest trends (think ombre, dark colors and patterns, statement making tees) and repurposes them for 2014 with the plaid patterns we’ve all been obsessing over and comic book lettering that makes this Kenzo sweatshirt oh-so-Kenzo (AKA you won’t be able to miss it).
The sweatshirt comes with lettering in gold or black and there is a matching clutch for both color options. Not word yet on when the sweatshirt will be available for purchase, but keep your eyes peeled. It won’t be long until you start seeing it on all your favorite fashion bloggers.
