Truth be told, we love what peplum does for the waist, but we’re kinda over it. It’s been around for so long at this point, the novelty has more than worn off. But we’re not writing a little feminine flounce off entirely. Instead, we’re taking it down a notch–literally–and embracing the flounce hem skirt for spring.

Now if you’ll notice, flounce hems are reminiscent of peplum. Instead of adding some girly flair at the waist, however, these ruffled hemlines pretty up a plain pencil skirt. But don’t just take our word for it. Designers like Carven, Nonoo and Topshop are all making them and they work with just about anything up top from a fitted tank to a loose tee. We say invest in one in a standout color for spring and we promise it will be your new favorite go-to. Click through our slideshow to check out some of our favorite flounce hem skirts.
