By now, you’ve seen that Michelle Obama chose a Thom Browne pre-fall 2013 coat and dress for her Inauguration look. The First Lady has shown herself to be a fan of Browne in the past, wearing dresses by the designer to the DNC and the presidential debate last fall. Though he was previously most-known for his menswear designs – particularly his distinctive well-tailored suits – Browne’s recent womenswear designs are making a name for themselves. To get to know Browne a little bit more, we’ve rounded up all the need-to-know details about the designer.

Name: Thom Browne

Age: 48

Nationality: American

Training: Giorgio Armani showroom and several years leading the Club Monaco creative development team
