Anyone else have vacations on the brain? I totally can’t stop thinking about going somewhere hot and sunny, and my daughter is on board, too. Every chance she gets she is telling me about how much she loves the beach.
So yesterday, I started researching beach getaways for the two of us. Except when I ran the idea by my dad, he totally freaked. “What? The two of you in a foreign place all alone? I don’t think so. That’s too dangerous.”
Umm, whoa, I wasn’t expecting that. Too dangerous? We live alone in New York City, for goodness sake. And hey, Sheryl Crow is a single mom and she’s currently vacationing in Hawaii with her two kids. If she can do it, why not me?
But the more I thought about it, the more my paranoia started to rear its ugly head. What would I do if someone were to, say, break into our room? And would we look like easy targets, traveling all alone? It wasn’t long before the Natalee Holloway story came to mind and I was in full panic mode.
Then, of course, I started to wonder how relaxing a vacay with just me and a toddler would be. No help, everything is unfamiliar and constantly having to find ways to keep a 3-year-old entertained… Maybe this trip wouldn’t be such a good idea.
So I’m wondering what all you other moms would do. Would you ever take a vacation with just your kids? Why or why not? Would be you more concerned about physical danger or your emotional stability? Share your thoughts in the comments.
