Kanye West’s Nike Air Yeezy II sneakers are launching in select stores tomorrow. If you thought that you had to be Kanye West’s buddy (aka Chris Brown or Jay Z who both already own a pair) or camp outside the stores for the past two weeks (more about that later), we’ve got awesome news for you– the limited-edition sneakers will launch online.
Catch? You won’t know the date or time of the launch until Nike’s Store twitter page announces that the shoe is live. How genius is this plan to gain more twitter followers? Created as part of Kanye West and Nike’s second collaboration, the sneakers will retail for $245 with the online store limiting one colorway (platinum or black) per customer. Sucks for the guy who shelled more than $90,000 on a pair on eBay yesterday.
We’re guessing we won’t have time to count to 10 before the sneakerheads scoop all the shoes off the website. That’s why the first sneaker fans in line at NYC’s Dr.Jay’ have camped outside for the past two weeks.
“It’s a historical sneaker that’s never coming out again,” said Yused “Juice” Hernandez.
Equipped with tents, umbrellas and phones (to keep up to date with the latest Yeezy II raffles and giveaways), Hernandez, along with a group of 20 other fellow fans (photo above), has been been sleeping outside for the past 14 days, rotating shifts to be able to go to work.
Don’t want to take chances and not get the most coveted sneakers of the season? Sellers on eBay are offering shoes with bids starting at $700 and going up to $6,000 at press time. Expect listings to multiply as soon as the sneakers release.
