Who doesn’t love going out to eat? You get great food and fun times with your favorite people. With all that going on, we never think twice about the possible dangers of using metal silverware at our favorite restaurant.
According to Woman’s Health, you should be slightly cautious when it comes to the restaurant utensils that you put in your mouth. There’s a chance that a gastroenteritis-causing virus may be on them! Unfortunately, we can’t get rid of all of the germs in the world, especially if you try to hand wash them away at the table. But there is some good news: a lot of restaurants use dishwashers (I know, why not all of them?) and soak the silverware in an anti-bacterial mixture. Sadly, though, norovirus particles tend to live on, even through all that tedious cleaning. Additionally, it doesn’t help that norovirus particles are the number one source of epidemic gastroenteritis: a disease that can cause vomiting and severe diarrhea for days. Ugh!
Before you swear off restaurants for good, remember that even though you can’t control what the restaurant does behind closed doors, you can always protect yourself. Make sure that the place you are eating in is clean and smells good, never eat at a restaurant when you are sick or your immune system is weak, and always inspect the silverware to make sure that there is no grime or leftover food on them.
