There’s no need to be embarrassed: we all get pit stains. But what happens when you get pit stains on your favorite silk blouse or dress? Silk is super delicate (not to mention expensive) and needs to be handled with care. In my experience, dry cleaning has done nothing to remove pit stains (I’ve had many arguments with my dry cleaner about this). So instead of putting my favorite silk blouse to rest due to unsightly pit stains, I decided to try to remove the stains myself. First, I did some research. I read a lot of conflicting method on the internet. Many sites suggest using ammonia to remove stains. However, I thought this would be too hard for silk (plus, I don’t have ammonia readily available in my apartment). Instead, I tried the vinegar method.
First, I mixed equal parts vinegar and water in a bowl.
Using a sponge, I gently dabbed the stain.
Rinse the spot under warm water.
Hang the garment in well-ventilated area to dry. If the stain still persists, repeat the process. Is the stain super stubborn? Try applying a mixture of cream of tartar, crushed aspirin, and warm water to the stain. Leave the mixture on for 20 minutes and then rinse the spot with warm water.
