The start of a new year is the perfect time to refresh your home. Not only are you likely to be spending more time at home because of winter hibernation, but the month of January is all about setting your intentions for the year ahead. “Billions” star Malin Akerman teamed up with HomeGoods to give her LA living space a refresh, and share her tips with us:

“I love going to HomeGoods for new décor inspiration because shopping there is like a fun adventure and I know I can find quality pieces at great prices!” she says. Without further ado, here are her life-changing tips:

The 125 Best New Beauty Launches Of 2023

Entertainment Room

Make the most of your shared family spaces with some creative storage units, Malin advises. "I found a beautiful, dark wooden credenza with a herringbone design for under $400. It is completely my taste and has plenty of storage for extra games, throw blankets and barware– perfect for fun movie nights!”

And don't forget about the statement pieces. “I’m always on the hunt for a statement piece so when I spotted these vibrant, blue velvet chairs with brass frames in HomeGoods, I knew I had to have them for my entertainment room. Not only are they super comfortable, they served as the main style inspiration for the space and helped bring my vision to life.”

Don't be afraid to mix more than one styles! “My home décor style is a mix of Moroccan, rustic and sleek modern elegance. While shopping at HomeGoods, I was so thrilled to find a soft, white leather coffee table, a variety of textured throw pillows and three large woven area rugs to really make the space feel cozy yet sophisticated. I’m also obsessed with this Moroccan-inspired lamp for my side table. It’s so me and special – I knew I had to have it – and the best part is I know that all these items will all last a really long time!”

Office Nook

It doesn't have to have a door to be a room, Malin reminds! “I wanted to take advantage of the long empty hallway leading into my entertainment room, so I decided to create a workspace area. My new office nook is equipped with a sleek white desk, rolling organizing cabinet, a fabulous macramé wall hanging and fun desk accessories- all for under $300!”

Use art to your advantage. “I love to mix and match various styles to form one cohesive look in my home. I came across a variety of stunning blue and gold hued oversized paintings that I couldn’t pass up. Lining the hallway to my entertainment room and within my office nook, the pops of blue effortlessly ties both spaces together and brings in so much color.”

Son’s Bedroom

For kids' rooms, organization is key. “As a working mom, my life can get hectic so I try to keep my home – especially my son’s bedroom – as organized as I can. He loves his toys so it can get a bit messy, but that's one of the many reasons why HomeGoods is my go-to place – there are so many versatile storage options to choose from. I found a variety of durable red, striped, and buffalo check storage cubes for just $14.99 each. I knew they’d make it easy for him to organize his toys on his own, and bonus, they still look stylish on his shelves.” Spark their creative spirit. “My son is a little inventor, so I wanted to create a workspace in his room where he could do homework or work on his next creative project. While exploring the aisles of HomeGoods, I found this unique wooden leaning desk that has shelves above and below for storage. My son loves it so much that now he does all his experiments in his bedroom instead of the kitchen!” “The bedding options at HomeGoods are endless and they have an amazing selection for kids. I grabbed a few bright-colored blankets in his favorite color, red, and found these adorable wizard-patterned sheets and a wicker rocket ship hamper. Now his bedroom décor is both playful and sophisticated.”
