The Maria actress, 50, not only revealed her scars on the cover, but she also opened up about the preventive double mastectomy she underwent in 2013 – six years after losing her mother to breast cancer – after discovering that she carried the BRCA1 gene.
In her candid TIME interview, the mom-of-six revealed: "I share these scars with many women I love. And I'm always moved when I see other women share theirs."
"I wanted to join them, knowing that TIME France would be sharing information about breast health, prevention, and knowledge about breast cancer," the Couture star continued.
While the majority of social media users flooded the comments with love and support after seeing the cover and reading the interview, a small number of internet trolls accused the Eternals actress of seeking attention, and even attempting to distract people from her ongoing legal battle with ex-husband Brad Pitt. Fortunately, those critics were firmly in the minority.

Speaking to France Inter earlier this week, the Maleficent actress described her mastectomy as a "a choice" she is "grateful" to have made, once again emphasizing how proud she is of the scars she was left with following the procedure.
"I've always been someone more interested in the scars and the life that people carry. I'm not drawn to a perfect idea of a life that has no scars," the Atelier Jolie founder explained.
"My scars are a choice I made to stay here as long as I could with my children. I love my scars because of that. And I'm grateful that I had the opportunity and the choice to do something proactive about my health," she went on.
Jolie added: "So for me, I think this is life, and if you get to the end of your life and you haven't made mistakes and you haven't made a mess, you don't have scars, you haven't lived a full enough life."
