Got an Android device that refuses to hold a battery charge for longer than a few hours? Join the club — phone battery complaints are super common, and it isn’t always a simple problem to address.

Perhaps you really need to keep those battery-draining apps on your phone — the most notorious ones, like Facebook Messenger and Facebook itself. Whatever the reason, you can make the most of your phone, exactly how it is, and keep a handle on its battery with the help of specific apps. This is the one app you should download today if your battery is always running low.

According to Android Authority, there are five top-notch battery-saver apps for Android — apps that will help you understand what, specifically, is causing battery drainage on your device.

At the tippy top of their list you’ll find an app called Greenify. The app can be purchased for free or you can pay $2.99 for it if you want to support its development. Either way, it can help you root out the battery-killing culprits on your phone.

Greenify is described by Google Play as an app that helps “you identify and put the misbehaving apps into hibernation when you are not actively using them, to stop them from lagging your device or leeching the battery, in a unique way! They can do nothing without explicit launch by you or other apps, while still preserving full functionality when running in foreground.”

While some battery-helping apps present the challenge of simultaneously taking up your battery power, the developers of Greenify claim that is not the case with this app: “Greenify does need background running services for auto-hibernation to work. It is designed and implemented in extremely lightweight and nearly zero CPU and battery consumption.”

Greenify also does not collect your personal data, according to its developers.

Whether you have a root or non-root device, Greenify is one example of a helpful app that may just make a huge difference in your device’s battery performance. Remember: other manual steps are equally important — be sure to turn down the brightness setting on your phone screen and consider deleting non-essential apps (like games and, yep, Facebook) that are taking up a lot of battery power.
