Nearly 30 years after Gwyneth Paltrow turned heads in an iconic little black Calvin Klein dress at the 1996 premiere of Emma (see here!), her daughter followed in her stylish footsteps. Apple Martin, 21, joined her mother at the New York City premiere of Marty Supreme on December 16, wearing the exact same ensemble.

The dress featured a plunging neckline and a criss-cross back, and Apple even mirrored her mother’s 1996 hairstyle with a chic updo and face-framing fringes. She kept her makeup minimal and completed the look with classic diamond stud earrings.

The premiere turned into a family affair, with her son Moses, 19, in attendance, along with her stepchildren, Brad Falchuk’s two kids.

Fans online took to Instagram to share their thoughts on whether the mother or the daughter wore it better.

“Hate to say it - but the mom wore it better,” wrote one fan. A second said, “Apple Martin in the black dress is gorgeous.” A third wrote, “Gwyneth ALL the way.” A fourth commented, “Mother is more authentic!” A fifth said, “Apple wearing her mom’s iconic dress with natural diamond stud earrings, is what I needed. She looks so beautiful.”

The rising model is a college student passionate about fashion and beauty, often assisting with Goop products, while Moses, a student at Brown University, is a musician who plays guitar and piano, contributes to Coldplay songs, and even tours with his band.

Apple Martin Opens Up About College Life

Apple opened up to Interview magazine on April 2 about her college life, her major, and her passions.

“I’m a law, history, and society major, but I wish I would’ve taken—maybe I’ll take a theater course before I leave. It’s a fun balance between my very different extracurriculars and my major,” she shared.

“So, the reason why I was originally like, ‘Maybe I’ll be a lawyer,’ was because I loved acting, but I was insecure and nervous, so I was like, ‘Oh my god, if I’m a lawyer, I can perform on the stage in a trial setting,’” she explained. “It’s insane that I thought that. Also, I cannot lie, I was like, ‘I’ll just be Elle Woods.’ It’s a lot harder than it looks. I don’t know how she managed to go to law school every day as fabulous as she did.”

“But I love history. I love true crime. I love investigating,” she added. “I also think it’s fun to look at the history of law and see how you can implement it in a modern context. If I were to be a lawyer, I would just want to help people. That’s probably the biggest thing.”

Theater clearly holds a special place in Apple’s heart, and she’s eager to explore it further—unsurprising, given that a love for the creative arts runs in the family. “I would love to do theater because I adore it so much,” Apple continued. “I’ve obviously never done film before, but I’ve been trying to get involved in student films. I was born a theater kid.”
